Sorry, speaking in incorrect blanket statements is not what I normally do. I mentioned SOME units do have the ability. I never stated this one did. Even made 3 different disclaimers in my original post...which clearly you didn't read.
It is exactly the same thing, just does not ship with a metal ring to adapt it to a window. Again, the unit will not care (from an operational standpoint). It will not be offended the hole in the wall is called something different.
For the 80th time though: "But just to make matters simple, probably just buy a unit that was designed for window use."

I work in HVAC as well. Enough to know that a window / wall unit is just a small package system poking out of a 2x4 framed hole in the wall.

And the grille doesn't do anything but protect the unit from debris from weed eaters, hail, or people writing their names in the fins. An expert like yourself should know that.

A) You assume too much!
B) You overcomplicate things too much!....which, in the process, only serves to create confusion for those who come here for some simple, easy to understand, non-contradictory guidance.
C) You always have to be right (even when you insist upon resorting to both A & B)....so there's no such thing as a healthy, constructive discussion with you! Ever! However, I am impressed that you're not only a so-called HVAC pro, but that you're also in the sheet metal business and can miraculously make everything fit into everything! Pretty slick!
BTW, since you can do everything with your eyes closed (and with your mouth as your tool kit), you might've missed the fact that you can't use a $4 stamped metal grill to finish off your invention! You figure out why!
